Grid city of the Midwest
Chicago
Illinois, United States
Chicago's near-perfect cardinal grid — laid out around the Public Land Survey — produces what locals sometimes call Chicagohenge: the moment each spring and autumn equinox when the sun sits squarely down every east-west street. The Loop's deep canyons make it one of the most dramatic alignment experiences in North America.
